He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas E. West and Lela Myers West; his sister Diane West Hiatt; and his son Stacy Murdock West. He is survived by: his wife Petrea Murdock; his son Benjamin West; his sibling's children, David Hiatt and Lisa Hiatt Hamilton (Maynard); and his friend Jack Barratt. He is also survived by four horses.
