He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Mahuruarii Taapai Tu Mataoa and Eleonora Natuaraavahineitaiitemoanatairaraha Teraiamano; his siblings, Raymond, Lavaina, Amona, Myron, Aiona, Ata, Anita Mataoa and Maeva Salem; his wife Phyllis Nancy Butler; and his children, Dr. Teanu Scott Mataoa (Marie Petion), Blake Taapai Mataoa, Claire Tiare Mataoa, Nancy Eleonora Mataoa (Fidel Montero) of Montero and Anita Velda Thomas (Chris Thomas). He was also cherished by his children, grandchildren, and friends.
