He was predeceased by : his parents, Reuben Eldridge Carter and Marinda A Menlove; his grandson Shane Stephen Smith; and his siblings, Grove Carter (Fonnie), Rowene Knapp (Oliver), William W. Carter (Jeanine), Verna Dunstan Taylor (Andrew), Dan Reuben Carter and Cathlene Annie Caras (Frank).

He is survived by : his wife Michal Gay Vincent Carter; and his children, Helina Carter Thomas (Chad), Susan Ellen Christensen (Burton), David John Carter, Judd Allen and Carter. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, three great grandchildren.
