He was predeceased by : his parents, Arnim EG "Jack" and Mary Kathryn Radliff Essex; his wife Mary Jeanette Diltz; and his sisters, Ramona Mosley and Shirley Printice.

He is survived by : his children, Sandra Brass (Paul) of Dinosaur, Colorado, Terrance Essex of Dinosaur, Colorado, Roberta Waits (Roger) of Dinosaur, Colorado, Kelly Smithey of Dinosaur, Colorado, Roosevelt of Dinosaur, Colorado, Robert G. of Dinosaur, Colorado, Jack J Essex of Dinosaur, Colorado, William Essex (Crystal) and Bon Nguyen (Thuy Cao). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
