Darla Covington Knowlton Stubbs returned to her Heavenly Father that Monday (05-Oct-2020) after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure and cancer. Darla was born July 1, 1939 to Henry Esplin and Birdie Finlayson Covington. Even as a child, Darla was authentic, patient, enduring, devout, loving, optimistic and peace seeking.. She always saw the best in others, and was extremely devoted to her family. As she grew up, she fell in love with and married Horace John Knowlton. As a result of their union, 15 children (8 girls, and 7 boys) were born, and grew up to adulthood. Darla’s husband, Horace, passed away in March of 1987. Darla then fell in love with and married Kenneth Teel Holtsclaw August of 1987. For 7 years, Ken provided Darla with some much needed support and companionship in keeping the her household together with the her 7 youngest children. Though, due to to irreconcilable differences, they divorced January 1, 1995. About 2 years later on November 9, 1996, Darla married widower Joe Demar Stubbs. Joe was very loving, virtuous and caring towards Darla, and they had thirteen wonderful years together. Joe passed away in June 2010.
Darla is predeceased by parents Henry Esplin and Birdie Finlayson Covington; siblings Robin Covington, Alden Covington, Renon Covington Beatty, and Iris Covington; husbands Horace John Knowlton, Kenneth Teel Holtsclaw, and Joseph Demar Stubbs; and son Henry Anthony Knowlton. She is survived by brothers Randall Covington, Daniel Covington, and Stanley Covington; and children Marcia Knowlton Riseman, Diane Knowlton Vincent, Charles Knowlton, Melody Knowlton, Julia Knowlton Iverson, Sean Knowlton, Rachel Knowlton Shepherd, Norman Knowlton Aaron, Wendy Knowlton Vincent, Don Knowlton, Renon Knowlton Barnum, Brian Knowlton, Iris Knowlton Wright, and Kevin Knowlton. And her 44 grandchildren, and her 12 great grandchildren who will all miss her deeply. Darla was very hard working. Her greatest pride and joy came from living the Gospel and loving her family. She was one of the most angelic people to grace the earth.
Darla's last years on the earth were dealing with health concerns that took time and energy away from visiting those she loved. Those around her noted that she endured every trial very well, with courage, patience and grace. Though all Darla's kids were eager to help how they could, her daughter Melody with her partner Vic put much of 20+ years of their lives on hold, and contributed much of their resources taking care of, and making Darla's life comfortable. Darla was surrounded by heavenly and earthly angels to the very end. Earth's loss is Heaven's gain, Darla was one of the worlds best.
