He was loved and cherished by many people including: his adoptive father James Stephen; his wife Diane Burns; his children, Melissa Dawn, Robert Steven and James Jesse; his sister Azalia Kirouac; his niece Samantha Jamie Bigger; his parents, James Stephen and Doris Elizabeth Nix Bigger; his brother Shannon James Bigger; Doug (Jill Burns), Colleen (Scott Tilleman), Roger Burns, Buffy Burns and Norman (Tracy Burns). He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

“Sam was one of my best childhood friends. We did almost everything together during our teenage years. He was always happy and his laugh was infectious. We lost touch for a couple years when I moved to Norway to serve a mission. We reconnected at BYU after his mission. We lost touch again for many years. I tracked him down again a couple years ago when I heard he was in Utah. Sam will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Farewell old friend, Charles Maxwell”
