He was predeceased by: his parents, Wallace Oliver Nelson and Arlie Jane Hansen; his sister Terri Nelson; his daughter Lisa Ann Nicoletti; and his grandsons, Nicholas, Jeremy, Joshua and Jacob Shipley.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Schaelling; his daughter Amy Shipley (Bob); his grandchildren, Kaden Andreason, Christian Shipley and Tony Nicoletti; and his brothers, Marlow Hansen (Jean) and Wally Jr. Nelson (Omah).
