He was predeceased by: his parents, Leland Clive and Mabel Brown Hansen; and his brother Dave. He is survived by: his wife Becky; his children, Josh, Jon (Stacy), Sam, Tom (Jill), Skye, Tim (Jaycee) and Beth (David); and his siblings, Kathy and Curt.

In October 2020, Richard contracted Covid-19 and spent two weeks in the hospital.
