He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Valkenburgh and Augusta Van Valkenburgh. He is survived by: his siblings, Craig (Judith), Brion (Pat) and Donna (Andy); his children, Pamela Dixon (Dave), Lonny Van Valkenburgh (Tava), Monty Van Valkenburgh and Marcia Whitman (Charles); his wife Karla Serdienis; and his grandchildren, TeTori, Zealin, Tahi, Koro Dixon, Kaelyn, Cope, Cash Whitman and Tylee Van Valkenburgh. He is also survived by his siblings and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
