He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Schmidt and Emma Zeylemaker Schmidt; his parents-in-law, Gerhard and Tracy Kastein; his siblings, Henry, Lloyd, Robert, Donald, Bernice, Arlene, Florence, Joan, Joy and Marcia; his brother-in-law Ed Oldenkamp; and his son-in-law Pete Van Vliet.
He is survived by: his wife June Kastein; his daughters, Linda VanVliet, Paula Hulburt (Dave), Pamela Oosten (Gerald) and Robin Ahrenstorff (Robert); and his grandchildren, Brad Hulburt (Kelly), Jill Manning (Ryan), Mieke VanVliet, Sally Mullen (Eric), Greg Hulburt (Raina), Christy Engel (David), Sarah Clayton (Mike), Natalie Olson (Matthew), Karen Steffer (Matt), Ashley Wendt (Thaddeus), Kimberly Byford (Chad), Beth Demshar (Mark) and Melinda Arnold (Phillip). He is also survived by 28 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
