He was predeceased by : his parents, John M. Simonsen and Rae Simonsen; and his brother Jared Simonsen. He is survived by : his close friend Nancy Osborn; his wife Nancy; his sons, Marc Simonsen (Heidi) of Benjamin, Geoffrey Simonsen (Jessie) of Springville and Kyle Simonsen (Lauren) of Temple, Texas.; his daughter-in-law Lexi Simonsen of Salem; and his siblings, Larry, Annette, James and Reid. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren.

“I was very sorry to get news of Darrell's death just 2 days ago when his brother, Reid, reached out to me via email. I was in scouts with Darrell in the Pleasant View neighborhood in Provo. We attended summer scout camp at Maple Dell several times. Although I got my Eagle badge, it was really for my mom. I was never big on scouting. Darrell, though, became a scoutmaster himself later, and he recently told me some stories about the experience via email. I’m glad it was him, not me. :-) Still, I”
