He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Kirkland and Pauline Sargent; his brothers, Alvin and Tom Kirkland; and his daughter Robyn Turner.
He is survived by: his wife Janeall Smuin Kirkland; his grandchildren, Daniel Turner of El Paso, TX and Kayla Turner of Boston, MA.; his brother Ted (Darlene) of Bakersfield, CA; his siblings-in-law, DeVon Smuin (Sandra), Levi Smuin, Dan Smuin (Gayle), Jackie Robbins (Gale) and Bonne Lawson (Tom); and his sibling's children, Launa Peterson (Walter), Karen Martinez (Fidel) and Marianne Boren (Bruce).
