It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Beulah Matney Hess of Abingdon, Virginia, born in Grundy, Virginia, who passed away on August 26, 2023, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Vernie Vandyke Matney and George Vandyke; her husband Dallas "Sam" Hess; and her siblings, Hazel Looney, Thelma Ratliff, Helen Bowman, Ann Matney, Junior, Ira, Ed and Roger Matney.
She is survived by: her children, Susan Comfort (Vern) of Abingdon, VA, Sheri Looney (Kevin) of Cedar Bluff, VA, Dallas Hess, Jr. (Jayne) of Grundy, VA and Douglas Hess (Jessica) of Abingdon, VA; her brother Buford Matney (Linda) of North Carolina; her grandchildren, Emily Willis (Jessee), Joshua Hess (Ashley), Kayleb Hess, Keith Comfort and Braxton Hess; her great grandchildren, Autumn Hess, Logan Hess, Christian Hess, Graicyn Hess and Scarlett Willis; and her close friends, James, Lana Ward, Vickie Norris, Mary Rapp, Virginia Tiller, Marilyn Stacy, Eddie Honaker, Mildred Skeens and Sue Asbury. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 28105.
