James touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his parents, James S. Shortt and Freida M. Shortt (Swift); his stepmother Mary R. Shortt; and his sisters, Barbara J. Buchanan (Shortt) and Rose Mary Marshall (Shortt).
He is survived by: his wife Sharon Nelson Shortt of Taylors Valley; his siblings, Margaret McLeod (David) of North Carolina, Tommy Necessary (Robin) of Abingdon and Susie Dotson of Taylors Valley; and his stepchildren, Ronnie Sneed and Angie Page. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to The American Cancer Society.
