It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Walter Widener Jr. of Abingdon, Virginia, who passed away on May 22, 2025, at the age of 55, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his granddaughter Mia Shortt. He is survived by: his children, David Widener, Beth Waddell (Danny) of Bristol, Tenn. and Johnathan Widener of Coeburn; his former wife Angela Wright of Coeburn; his siblings, Denise Roe of Roanoke, Richard Dixon of Nashville, Tenn., William Glen "Peanut" Widener and Diana Stine of Germany; his grandchildren, Kayden Widener, Gracin Shortt, Kaylen Widener, Kira Widener, Donald Widener and Bryson Widener; and his friend John "Tiny" Mullins (Melissa) of Abingdon. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
