He is survived by: his wife Janice Smith Brooks; his mother-in-law Euna Smith; his children, Chad Brooks (Jodie) of Kingsport, TN, Jennifer Brooks of Kingsport, TN, Michael Coates (Sindy) of Bristol, VA and Treyton Coates (Ana) of Bristol, VA; his grandchildren, William Brooks, Hunter Leonard and Heather Wilson; his siblings, Sherry Kinney (Kevin) of Boscobel, WI and Robert E. Brooks, Jr. (Susie) of Lenoir City, TN; and his brothers-in-law, Gilmer Smith, Jr. and John Smith (Monica). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
