He was predeceased by: his parents, A. H. Matney and Mary Scott Matney; his son Michael Scott "Scotty" Matney; his siblings, Ellis, Tom, Carl "Mook" Matney and Ellen "Sis" Matney Arrington; and his sisters-in-law, Shirley, Ola Gay, Nell and Betty Matney.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Baldwin Matney; his children, Jill Matney (Charlie Smith), Kim Matney and David C. Matney; his grandson Lucas Creed Matney; his brothers, Paul Matney (Ilene) and Frank Matney; and his brother-in-law James Arrington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
