He is survived by: his daughter Janie Elizabeth Abernathy-Garrand (Steve) of Plattsburgh, NY; and his siblings, Gail Abernathy Fathergill (Russ) of Calabash, NC, Roger "Gene" Abernathy (Linda) of Mechanicsville, VA and Michael Abernathy of Highland Springs, VA..
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 1st 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Bethel United Methodist Church (45 Church St, Alberta, VA 23821). A memorial service was held on Tuesday, September 1st 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
