“I loved Frank Howard, he was my favorite baseball player, and everyone who knew him says he was a wonderful man. I saw him play in person during each of his seven seasons in Washington. I saw him hit a home run in person on his 30th birthday, Auguast 8, 1966, the pitcher was Dave Wickersham of the Detroit Tigers. I saw him hit 4 home runs in person in total. I took the picture on September 23, 2007, at the last game played at RFK Stadium. I cried when I heard he died.”

“The first time I met him was 1965, at Gate A of DC Stadium after a Nats game. I was 10. I got into media as an adult and interviewed him several times, and he was always helpful in our efforts to bring baseball back to DC. I last met him at a memorabilia show, more than 50 years after our first meeting. He lived a lifetime of living up to the label, "hero" in this boys eyes.”

“I met Frank in the middle 1950s at O S U while in college. My brother Norman Steagall played basketball and baseball with him and they roomed together under the press box at the Ohio Stadium. A nicer more welcoming person was Frank as I never had or have I ever met. My gentle giant! My parents Fred and Gladys Steagall were great friends with him while he was at Ohio state.
