With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Kay Viar Layne of Amherst, Virginia, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on April 6, 2026 at the age of 76. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Ralph Viar and Mary Viar; her sister Shirley Wilson; and her grandson Rhett Pugh. She is survived by: her husband Robert Lash Layne; her nephew William Keith McFaden; her daughters, Carrie Dooley (Shane), Mary Kay Martin (Keith), Lash Layne Pugh and RJ; her grandchildren, Daniel McFaden, Leah McFaden, Brian Cole McFaden, Caylee Preston, Corey Dooley, Chad Dooley, Charlie Dooley, Cash Dooley, Elizabeth Drewry and Gracie Taylor; her great grandchild Hunter Preston; her siblings, Ralph "Sonny" Viar and Diane Tomlin; and her extended family, Brenda Ward, Henry "Butch" Layne, Thomas "Winnie" Layne and Wanda Sandifer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Madison Heights Baptist Church.
