He was predeceased by : his parents, Eddie R. Hartless and Easter T. Hartless; and his siblings, Ray Hartless, Roy L. Hartless and Linda H. Nuckols.

He is survived by : his wife Thelma B. Hartless; his son Lewis C. Hartless (Kelly); his grandchildren, Abigail L. Hartless and Samuel L. Hartless; and his sister Nancy H. Whittaker. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
