He was predeceased by: his wife Mary L. Whalen; his grandchildren, Donald, Katelyn, Alex, Spencer, Savannah, Jake, Kara, Drake, Jay, Marcus, Michael, Megan, Thomas and Emily; his great grandchildren, Emma, Drew, Katie, Alexander, Landon and Reid; and his brother John R. Whalen of Kensington, MD.
He is survived by: his children, Jean Zimmerman (David), Thomas E. Whalen (Lauri), Timothy Whalen (Janelle), Carol Leonard (David), Mike Whalen (Tiffany) and Mary Duplessis (Jeff); and his sister Marjorie MacLachlan of Greentree, PA. He is also survived by 28 nieces and nephews.
