He was predeceased by : his wife Opal Adair Johnson Paulette; his parents, Robert Jefferson Paulette, Sr. and Annie Christian Wheeler Paulette; and his siblings, Jack, Bruce, Dwight, Ashby, Adrian, Burke, Temple Paulette, Virginia Krouse, Kathleen Lawler, Christine Moseley and Gwendolyn Franklin.

He is survived by : his children, Hope Paulette Bondurant (Joseph), Donna Marie Paulette, James P. Paulette, Jr. (Melinda), Robin Adair Paulette and Jeffery Owen Paulette (Kathy); and his grandchildren, Bryan J. Ferguson, Jean A. Bowman, James P. Paulette III, James E. Terry, Chris E. Pannell, Eric R. Paulette, Annie C. Payne, Travis C. Bondurant, Troy E. Paulette and Elon J. Paulette. He is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Saturday, April 20th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Evergreen Baptist Church (472 White Pine Dr, Appomattox, VA 24522). A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 20th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
