He was predeceased by: his parents, Will Chappell and Virginia Flemming Chappell Chandler; his children, Cecil Ray "Toby" Chappell and Penny Ray Chappell; his grandson Joseph Chappell; and his siblings, Edith Collins, Jimmy Chappell and Dick Chappell.
He is survived by: his children, Josephine Rucker, Lillie (John Middleton), Bunny Chappell (Jeff King) and Derrick Franklin Chappell (Regina Waddell); his grandchildren, Jessica Louise Hiatt (Travis Wayne Hiatt), Jolena Jill Chappell Phillips, Erin Gwynn, Jesse Ray Tate (Mariah), Tanner King and William Forster Middleton; his sisters, Myrtle Coffey, Bessie Roberts, Kathy Philyaw and Tammy Ogle; his sister-in-law Dorothy Chappell; his daughter-in-law Cindy Chappell; his wife Brenda Joyce Chappell; Bradley and Lindsay Crouse. He is also survived by twenty-two great grandchildren; one great great grand child.
