He was predeceased by : his parents, James R., Sr. and Hazel Jeter; his daughter Kimberly Jeter Mitchell; and his sisters, Dorothy Cheatham and Jesse Thomas.

He is survived by : his wife Denise Jeter; his children, Denise Jeter, Shelby Jeter, Jade Jeter-Hailey (Jessie) and James Jeter III (Carolyn); and his sisters, Mary Jeter of Virginia and Mildred Jeter Watson. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.
