He was predeceased by: his father Richard Hanson; and his stepfather Robert Smith (Bob). He is survived by: his mother Karen Smith; his wife Joyce Hanson; his children, Rachel Hanson, Mikki Smallwood (Robert), Allison Duncan (Robert) and Brad Scrivner; his grandchildren, Kelsey Gahres (John), Ashley Smallwood, Bryce Duncan and Takara Duncan; and his siblings, Gentry Smith (Amanda), Heidi O'Hara and Brandon Smith. He is also survived by extended family and many friends.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Smyth County Moose Lodge (263 Chestnut Ridge Rd, Marion, VA 24354). A reception was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the same location.
