Loretta leaves behind cherished memories for friends, family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Loretta’s life was marked by connections and experiences that touched those around her. Though she is no longer with us, the moments shared, the laughter, and the support she offered will continue to resonate. All who knew Loretta will carry forward her memory in their hearts.
She was predeceased by: her parents, John Wesley Smith and Georgia Mabel Massengill; and her husband Charles Rosco Carter. She is survived by: her children, Terry Martin, Sandra Carter, Dana Caudill and David Carter; and her sister Jimi Lawrence. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren with 2 more expected; one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 10th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Bassett Funeral Service (3665 Fairystone Park Hwy, Bassett, VA 24055). A funeral service was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, September 11th 2026 at the Roselawn Burial Park (103 Clearview Dr, Martinsville, VA 24112).
