We are sad to announce that on May 19, 2024, at the age of 83, Hazel Payne Mitchell of Bedford, Virginia passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

As we bid farewell to this cherished soul, solace is taken in the memories held dear — the laughter shared, the wisdom imparted, the moments of quiet reflection in their presence. Though Hazel Payne may no longer walk among us, her spirit lives on in the echoes of her kindness, the warmth of her embrace, and the light of her enduring love.

She was predeceased by : her parents, Robert Payne and Hester Jacobs Payne. She is survived by : her children, Henry Clay Mitchell, Jr. and Pamela Dooley; and her grandchildren, John Hartman and Courtney Dooley.

A celebration of life was held on Thursday, May 23rd 2024 at 12:00 PM at the Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service (1140 W Lynchburg Salem Turnpike, Bedford, VA 24523).
