He was predeceased by: his parents, Ted Sowards and Lonie Adams Reynolds; his wife Mary Price Sowards; and his siblings, Ted Sowards, Jr., Marceline Sowards, Paul Reynolds and Glenda Reynolds.
He is survived by: his sons, James Roy Sowards (Linda), Richard Anthony Sowards (Sandra) and Jeffrey Clay Sowards (Cindy); his grandson Andy Clay Sowards (Louella); his stepgrandchildren, Lisa Dawn Hodges-Powell (Billy) and Shannon Ray Hodges (Denise); and his siblings, Mildred Reynolds, Bernard Reynolds, Bernice Reynolds, Joe Reynolds, Danny Reynolds and Ronnie Reynolds. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Thursday, August 27th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Walnut Street Chapel (1235 Walnut St, Bedford, VA 24523). A memorial service was held on Friday, August 28th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
