With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Joan Speir Purvis in Bedford, Virginia, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on November 13, 2025 at the age of 92. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
In the vast expanse of eternity, may Joan find peace everlasting, cradled in the gentle embrace of the universe. And as we stand on the shores of remembrance, may her legacy inspire us to live each day with purpose, passion, and profound gratitude for the gift of life itself.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Mamie Rahn Speir and Henry Lee Speir, Sr.; and her husband Carlton Purvis, Jr.. She is survived by: her children, Carlton Purvis (Dora), Kevin Purvis (Susan) and Cynthia Hedrick (Danny); and her sisters, Olivia Harvey and Sandra McBeth (Paul). She is also survived by seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan's memory to Centra Hospice in Lynchburg or Bedford Hospice House.
