He was predeceased by: his parents, Carter Wheat and Mamie Bell Wheat. He is survived by: his daughter Doris Lynn Wheat; his stepdaughters, Cheryl Nester and Drema Fogus (Kenny); his stepgrandchildren, Rachel Smith (Mike), Brandon Nester (Megan) and Jared Fogus (Jenny); his stepgreat-grandchildren, Ainsley Nester, Mavis Fogus and Ander Fogus; and his sister-in-law Hattie McMillan. He is also survived by many friends and his church family.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 29th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service (1140 W Lynchburg Salem Turnpike, Bedford, VA 24523). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 29th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Updike Funeral Chapel (1140 W Lynchburg Salem Turnpike, Bedford, VA 24523). A burial will be held on Tuesday, September 29th 2026 at 1:45 PM at the Greenwood Cemetery (1311 Park St, Bedford, VA 24523).
