He was predeceased by: his parents, John William Bell Jr. and Jennie Kate Rice Bell; his wife Anna Mae Ridgeway Bell; his grandson Matthew Lloyd Bell II; and his sisters, Theo Dorcas Parsons, Rachel Elizabeth Luttrell and Inez Claudine Kagey.
He is survived by: his sons, Robert Dixon Bell of Glengary, WV, John William Bell IV (Doreen) of Shady Side, MD and Matthew Lloyd Bell (Taryn) of Berryville, VA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
