He was predeceased by: his parents, James Douglas and Effie Ola Hicks Porterfield; his wife Lois Linkous Porterfield; and his sister Mary Douglas McDonald. He is survived by: his son Gregory Porterfield; his grandchildren, Austin Porterfield and Kristen Porterfield; his cousin Janice Ruth Hypes; and his niece Becky Frame (Edsel). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Blacksburg Christian Church (240 Watson Ave, Blacksburg, VA 24060).
