It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James L. Dowdy (Blacksburg, Virginia), who passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of James L. Dowdy to pay them a last tribute.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Kent Dowdy and Lena Sowers Dowdy; his wife Sallie T. Dowdy; his son Steven D. Dowdy; and his siblings, Annie Bradberry, Faye Smith, Mollissa Hall, Weeda Bradberry, Betty Mae Waldrop, Shelby Jean Dowdy, Russel Dowdy and Billy Dowdy.
He is survived by: his siblings-in-law, Janet Dowdy and Garnet Hall; and his close friend Norma Hill. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 19th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel (150 Country Club Dr SW, Blacksburg, VA 24060). A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 19th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Prices Fork Community Church.
