He was predeceased by: his parents, Martha Ann Maitland and Ben Allen Garrett; his wife Elsie Barnard Garrett; and his pet Bootsy. He is survived by: his children, Douglas Garrett (Mary Scott), Michael Garrett and Stephanie Giuliani (Frank); his grandchildren, Lauren McCormick, Jon Garrett and Brandi Fielding; his great grandchildren, Christopher, Molly McCormick, Beckett Fielding and Sloane Fielding; and his sister-in-law Judy Springston.
