He was predeceased by : his parents, Clarence Edward and Elizabeth Lucille Asbury Proffitt; and his siblings, Ed Junior Proffitt, Charles Allen Proffitt, Delores Ann Proffitt and Virginia Proffitt.

He is survived by : his close friend Eugenia Fuller Stump; his daughter Melissa "Missy" Proffitt; and his sisters, Louise Sexton, Lena Hodge (Michael), Ruth Byrd (Tommy) and Pam Ball. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
