With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Melvin E. Panther of Boydton, Virginia, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on March 17, 2026 at the age of 90. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As we bid Melvin farewell, let us not mourn the absence of his physical form, but rather celebrate the essence of his spirit that lingers in the spaces between moments. For Melvin is not truly gone, but merely transformed, his energy intertwined with the fabric of the universe itself, forever dancing among the stars.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Cliff Panther and Lucy Dickerson Panther; his daughter Rachel M. Panther; his granddaughter Bethany N. Panther; and his brothers, Henry and Wallace Panther.
He is survived by: his wife Jean Poteat Panther of Boydton, VA; his sons, David L. Smoot of Durham, NC and Alan Panther (Joyce) of Boydton, VA; his granddaughters, Abigail and Rachel; and his sisters, Ruby Ashworth of South Hill, VA and Remonia Elderbloot of Sandston, VA. He is also survived by other loving relatives and caring friends.
