It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Reed Watts of Burke, Virginia, born in Sumter, South Carolina, who passed away on August 26, 2025, at the age of 53, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his brother William Clement "Chad" Watts. He is survived by: his wife Mary Lee Sell Watts; his daughters, Ellie and Sarah Reed Watts; his mother Mimi Broome; his stepfather Rick Broome of Sumter, SC; his father Richard Oscar Watts (Betsy) of Fripp Island, SC; his pet Snoopy; his stepsister Elise Stringer (Jeffrey); his nephews, Tyndall and Jones Stringer of Greer, SC; his brother Scott; his sister-in-law Nancy Sell; and his nieces and nephews, Josh, William, Sadie Beth and Haynes Sell of Sylvania, GA. He is also survived by uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in his memory be made to Messiah United Methodist Church or the Gwendolyn Sell Sorrell Study Abroad Scholarship at the Middle Georgia State University Foundation.
