He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert E. Hale and Felichia E. Williams Hale; his brothers, Robert Edward Hale and Clayton Victor Williams; and his sister-in-law Ethel Belle Williams.

He is survived by : his wife Marzetta Williams; his children, Joyce Phillips (Randal) of Clintwood, Virginia, Clarence Williams (Rita) of Nickelsville and Danny Ray Williams (Bobbye Ann) of Fredericksburg, Virginia; his stepchildren, Carolyn Guy (Frank Gibson) of Nickelsville, Virginia, Michael and Johnny Jones; and his brothers, Ronald Dale Hale of Roanoke, Billy Joe Hale (Wanda Charlene) of St. Paul and Michael Neal Hale of Bristol, Virginia. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
