She was predeceased by: her parents, Joshua Gilliam and Gladys Kitts Gilliam; her husband Dempsey Smith; her daughters, Brenda Killen and Sherree Davis; her former husband Walter Maze Short; and her sister Billie Jo Gilliam.
She is survived by: her children, Tina Robinson (Jeff) of North Tazewell, Tom Short (Carolyn) of Jewell Ridge and Rick Short (Michelle) of Jewell Ridge, Virginia; her son-in-law Frank Killen of Richlands, Virginia; and her siblings, Ruby Jean Smith of Doran, Sue Smith (Bill) of Jewell Ridge, Virginia and Skip Gilliam (Margaret). She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, along with a host of family and friends.
