She is survived by: her daughters, Eleanor Garnett Mellen (David Hirschman), Frances Carrick Mellen (Kenneth Scobie) and Lelia Randolph Mellen; the father of her children William Shepard; her grandchildren, Oren Hirschman, Gita Hirschman, William Shepard and Myles Shepard; and her sisters, Cordelia Ruffin Wagner and Lelia Ruffin Grinnan.
