He was predeceased by: his parents, Thornton R. Ferrell and Effie Snead Ferrell; his brothers, Thornton Richard Ferrell Jr., Gordon Lee Ferrell and Melvin Neal Ferrell; and his grandson Robert Cooper, Jr..
He is survived by: his wife Rose Marie Ferrell; his children, Michael D. Ferrell and Catherine Ferrell Cooper; his grandchildren, Cassandra Ferrell of Charlottesville, Virginia, Michael D. Ferrell, Jr. (Tara) of New London and Justin Cooper (Lydia) of Albemarle County; and his great grandchild Ryften R. Cooper. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
