He was predeceased by: his parents, Vincent Gainer and Dora Gainer. He is survived by: his wife Susan Smith Gainer of Charlottesville; his sons, James Samuel Gainer (Julie Jones) and David Vincent Gainer (Jaclyn Taub); and his grandchildren, Gabriel, Oliver and Emelia Gainer.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1st 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Hill and Wood Funeral Home - Charlottesville Chapel (201 1st St S, Charlottesville, VA 22902). A Mass will be held on Saturday, August 2nd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Saint Thomas Aquinas University Parish (401 Alderman Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22903). A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 2nd 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Uva Cemetery.
