He is survived by: his children, Chrystal Evelyn Banks, Patrick James Butler (Nicole) and Reginald Alan Butler (Ebony); the parent of his children Lee Ethel Harris Butler; his grandchildren, Kavone Martinez, Tremaine Johnson, Makayla Butler, Amara Butler, Ciara Butler, Gabrielle Butler and Christian Brown; his siblings, Hattie Douglas, Betty Piggott, Joan Walker, John Butler (Judith), Ruby Wilkes (Gary), Robert Louis Butler, Mattie Williams (Richard), James Butler (Judy), Mary Butler, William Payne (Teresa) and Bessie Butler (James); and his aunt Patricia Royal. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 16th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the J. F. Bell Funeral Home Chapel (108 6th St NW, Charlottesville, VA 22903).
