He is survived by: his wife Betty Roberts Blackwell; his daughters, Carol Blackwell and Dianna Blackwell Hale; his son-in-law Paul R. Hale Jr. of Check; his grandchildren, Alexandra Turpin (Austin), Rachel Elkins (Cameron), Jared Custer (Brylie), Paul Ray "Trey" Hale III (Scarlett), Emma Gallimore (Ben) and Caroline Hale; his great grandchildren, Madison Worrell, Harper Worrell, Kennedy Turpin, Sawyer Elkins, Waylon Custer, Rhett Turpin, Wesley Custer, Atlee Elkins and Warren Custer; his sister Linda Barlow; his sister-in-law Patricia Palmer (Dave); his brother Donald McLane Whitlock (Priscilla); and also Robert "Bob" Dietz. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Gardner Funeral Home (202 E Oxford St, Floyd, VA 24091). A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 6th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Agriculture in the Classroom or the Ronald McDonald House.
