She was predeceased by: her parents, Samuel Smith and Alice Smith; and her husband Dr. Charles Carlson. She is survived by: her daughters, Dr. Caroline Carlson of Tucson, Arizona and Kristin Peterson (William) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her granddaughters, Alicia Rhamy (Josh) of Yorktown, Virginia and Alexandra Fort (Stephen) of Salem, Virginia; and her great grandchildren, Zoey, Riley and Olivia.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, September 12th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church (3900 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23452).
