She was predeceased by: her parents, Helen Faye Gifford Whitley and Joseph B. Wood Sr.; her first love Harold "Leo" Kinney; and her son George C. Umphlet. She is survived by: her daughter Ashley E. Sumption; her grandchildren, Lance Corporal Michael T. Wood, Jacob C. Wood, Logan M. Sumption, Rebekah E. Sumption and Charlotte "Charlie" M. Sumption; and her brothers, Ronnie Wood (Diana), Donnie Wood (Janet), Joe Wood and Jeff Wood (Deidra).
