He was predeceased by: his parents, Grover Vandyke and May Childress Vandyke; and his wife Margie Vandyke. He is survived by: his siblings, Ida, George, Guy, Lucy, Perry, Claude and Granvil Vandyke (Dan); his son Joseph Vandyke, Sr. of Suffolk Virginia; his grandchildren, Joseph Vandyke, Jr. of Corapeake and Chelsea Vandyke of Portsmouth; his great grandchildren, Elijah, Cooper and Tucker; and his sister Mary Cook of Grundy.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in honor of him.
