He was predeceased by: his parents, Lymon Franklin Pierce and Helen Emma Brady; and his siblings, Linwood Pierce, Leon Pierce, Rodney Pierce, Irene Pierce Stewart, Faye Pierce Chappell and Diane Pierce Atkinson.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Dillon Pierce; his children, Nancy Pierce Ward (Robert), James Pierce, Jr. (Page) and Karen Pierce Bailey; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Copeland (Jason), Ryne Bailey, James Ward and Zachary Ward; his great grandchildren, Kinsley Nicole Bailey and Luke Pierce Copeland; and his sister Joan Pearson.
