He was predeceased by: his parents, Zula Varee Miller Slusser and James Hamilton Slusser, Sr.. He is survived by: his sister Mary Catherine Slusser; his wife Evelyn Slusser; his children, Linda Tallinger (Chris Tallinger) and Christopher David; his grandchildren, Joseph Hudgins, Christina Stewart, Scott David and Tommy David; and his great grandchildren, Zoe Hudgins, Liam Stewart and Aria Stewart.

In 1992, he received NASA's Group Achievement Award for his contributions to the ARC Life Science experiments and equipment used on the Spacelab Life Sciences-1 mission.
